How to estimate a lease payment

  1. Enter the negotiated vehicle price (the capitalized cost) and any down payment or trade-in.
  2. Enter the residual value — what the vehicle is expected to be worth at lease end, often quoted by the dealer.
  3. Enter the money factor (the lease interest rate; multiply it by 2,400 to see the approximate APR).
  4. Enter the term in months. The tool sums the depreciation and finance portions to estimate the monthly payment.

Frequently asked questions

What is a money factor?
The money factor is how lease interest is quoted. Multiply it by 2,400 to approximate the equivalent APR — for example, a money factor of 0.00125 is about 3% APR.
What is residual value?
Residual value is the vehicle's estimated worth at the end of the lease. A higher residual means less value is used up during the lease, which usually lowers the monthly payment.
Does this include taxes and fees?
This estimate can apply an optional sales-tax percentage to the payment; it does not include registration, acquisition, or disposition fees. Confirm the full figure with the dealer.
